  About SAAC: How

(1) Spay-Neuter
SAAC's focus is spaying and neutering as this is the only PROACTIVE solution to pet overpopulation.

(a) Spay Day USA
We coordinate the annual Spay Day event for the Sacramento area. More than 3,000 cats and dogs of low-income families have been spayed or neutered since 2000 thanks to all the SAAC volunteers who pitch in to help out each year with Spay Day. SAAC has been partnering with the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine on this event since 2003, significantly increasing the number of animals spayed and neutered on Spay Day in the Sacramento region.

(b) Low-cost programs.
SAAC has developed a voucher program to provide assistance to those wishing to alter their pets but unable to afford it. Funding for this program is provided by donations and grants obtained by SAAC. SAAC also administers a coupon program for feral cats, providing feral cat cargivers with a low-cost option for trap-neuter-release programs for managed colonies.

(2) Communication.
SAAC also believes that shelters and rescue groups need support and networking opportunities to fulfill their missions of saving animal lives.

(a) The website.
The SAAC website is an attempt to provide a community portal to aid all local groups with rescue contacts and information about adoption events, spay and neuter resources and other information of interest to local rescuers.

(b) The email list.
Over 200 local animal rescuers and shelter personnel subscribe to the SAAC email list and many lives are saved through this communication tool.
